The Walt Disney Company and Barneys NY launched their first ever holiday collaboration: Electric Holiday Spectacular. The iconic institutions of high fashion and populist childhood wonder worked together for over a year to blend two very different worlds in a 5-minute animated short titled “Electric Holiday”, taking inspiration from Disney’s famous “Mainstreet Electrical Parade” and the special lighting installations so central to the New York holiday season and the flashbulbs of fashion runways.

“This is a lot of fun,” said Dennis Freedman, Barneys NY Creative Director. “[Gaga’s Workshop] was a little bit of a hard act to follow, but one of the names that came up was Disney.”

“This project is very different from any other we have done in the past,” noted Luis Fernandez, senior vice president of creative for Disney Consumer Products. “For the most part, labels have asked to come into our archives for ideas, and then interpret what we do. This is the perfect marriage between both our companies. The fact that we are getting most of our characters dressed by the best fashion houses out there is pretty incredible.”

Actress Sarah Jessica Parker, Walt Disney Company Chairman and CEO Bob Iger, and Barneys NY Mark Lee opened the star-studded event to all of New York City.

“Disney is proud to be part of New York’s holiday magic this year,” said Bob Iger, chairman and chief executive officer of The Walt Disney Company. “Together with Barneys, we’ve created a one-of-a-kind experience that combines Disney’s great characters and storytelling with high fashion for a spectacular celebration of the season.”

Celebrities of all stripes (Barbara Walters, Arianna Huffington, and Crystal Renn, to name a few) made their way to the evening launch party where Barneys New York took over 61st and Madison. The highly anticipated Walt Disney digital short premiered, setting the stage for an evening of dazzling windows for the holiday season, light-up cocktails, cotton candy and plenty of glowing electric ears.
